10th Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin

With the 2012 Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic coming up in June, anglers all over the Gulf Coast are gearing up to land that monster marlin.

The annual fishing tournament is in its 10th year and Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort will be hosting it again at Baytowne Marina. The tournament for 2012 will run from June 20 through June 24.

The weigh-ins are a particulary fun event to watch. As 700-pound Blue Marlins are hoisted into the air, the fishermen anxiously wait to see if they can claim part of more than $1 million prize money and bragging rights for catching the behemoth. In 2011, the total purse at the event exceeded $1.4 million with 71 teams and 352 anglers looking to land that monster fish.

Come out and have a beer and enjoy the live weigh-in from 4 to 9 p.m. on June 22 and from 4 to 10 p.m. on June 23. There is usually a crowd waiting for the boats to dock up and unload their catch to see who has the biggest fish.
